Abstract
he intensive study modality was created in order to provide attention to the population of young people and adults who are lagging behind in school. Despite the efforts made by the Ministry of Education to attend to this student population, it seems that the condition of being adults with family and work responsibilities with which these students attend classes in this educational modality has an impact on their emotional state and performance academician; and that, in spite of this, they try to complete their secondary studies with great effort, in view of which it is necessary to generate actions, from within the intensive blended educational institutions, to provide them with a motivating and supportive accompaniment, lightening, as far as possible, the overload of work with which they must deal day by day. The research is descriptive and is carried out with a mixed approach, with a predominance of the qualitative approach, with theparticipation of high school students from a secondary educational institution, which offers intensive modality for young people and adults. The results show that there are symptoms of overload syndrome in students, especially in women; as it was also possible to verify that carrying out extracurricular work on a regular basis, which allows the expression of contained emotions, could help to reduce the symptoms of emotional overload, in order to improve the quality of the teaching-learning process and the academic performance of young and adult students.
