Abstract
University education programs for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PPL) with face-to-face classes in social rehabilitation centers is new in Ecuador, and the Salesian Polytechnic University is a pioneer in this teaching-learning process. A first experience began with eight students in October 2008 at the Social Rehabilitation Center of the city of Macas, thanks to an inter-institutional agreement between this Rehabilitation Center, the Apostolic Vicariate of Méndez, the Prefecture of Morona Santiago and the Salesian Polytechnic University. . Each institution contributed with infrastructure, furniture, books and educational credits so that the inmates can access a University Career. With the Social Rehabilitation Center of Turi, the project began in October 2016, thanks to an agreement with the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Worship (MJDHC). This State portfolio is an entity in charge of guaranteeing access to timely, independent and quality justice, ensuring effective social rehabilitation, promoting social peace and the full observance of human rights, through policies, programs and the coordination of actions with institutions related to the justice system. Under this agreement, the Salesian Polytechnic University offered the first cycle of Business Administration at the Turi Social Rehabilitation Center, starting the proposal with 64 Persons Deprived of Liberty.
