Abstract

The purpose of this research was to gain an in-depth knowledge of the Social Action Experience (SAE) generated around the PSI subject at UPS through direct research in institutional/ecclesial documents in order to establish a dialogue between science and faith based on competencies. This study evidenced the curricular problem of the PSI subject (theory-practice) and the development of its competencies in the EAS program; the qualitative methodology was applied supported by phenomenology, observation without control, anecdotal record, inductive exploration, among other methods; as support to the development of each of the phases of the EAS program. It was possible to establish an academic dialogue between science and faith from the PSI subject reflected in its theory-practice within the EAS program and the participation of a high percentage of students enrolled in the EAS program was evidenced. This event reflected a clear institutional identity that allowed concluding that the PSI subject does contribute to the development of competencies; due to the fact that it is a novel and innovative academic curricular experience, the challenge arises to socialize both internally and externally to overcome the problem raised around this PSI subject and the EAS program.
