Abstract
Life in these latitudes does not present the native with the problems that it poses to the worker in civilized countries. If we have to adjust to the truth we must say that here the shortage of life is not felt because the two main problems, which are food and housing are entirely solved with the abundant banana and yucca plantations, and because, to build his house, the native does not need to spend on the acquisition of materials, which he takes from the forest, nor on labor, which he solves by asking for the collaboration of his neighbors, whom he will help in turn when they need to fix the house. Nor do they know the problem of clothing. Fashion has not entered these places, and what little a man needs for himself and his family he easily obtains by working for his employer. Unemployment is another unknown problem. When an Indian does not work it is because he does not want to, or because he does not need to work, or because he realizes that he has to know how to lead a life and it is not worth the trouble. He also has his own philosophy of life and does not want to complicate it.
