Implementation of SCADA in a distribution system with a medium voltage motor as load

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

With the growth of the industry and the need for higher capacity motors, the need arises to implement monitoring, control and protection systems called SCADA in distribution networks. A protection adjustment methodology is proposed and its implementation in a SCADA with IEC61850 communication between five IEDs. GOOSE, MMS and SV messaging was implemented between the IEDs of the network. The system includes a subtransmission network, a distribution network and a dynamic load of a medium voltage motor. The methodology is validated by injecting fault and steady-state voltages and currents using the OMICRON CMC356 equipment. Communication times, response times of protection functions and tripping of the circuit breaker are verified.
