Abstract

This investigation analyzed the experiment proposed by Osborne Reynolds for the implementation of a prototype controlled by a human-computer interface (HMI). The main element of this experiment is a water storage tank connected to a glass pipe, allowing water to flow and a colored liquid to be injected in the center. Therefore, the behavior of this visible vein was analyzed by modifying the water velocity to determine it in a simplified manner. A HMI system was integrated for volumetric flow regulation and digital display of the flow type. A laminar flow was obtained when the water flow rate was 1.90 L/min, reaching a speed of 0.107 m/s and a Reynolds number below 2000. In contrast, at a flow rate of 5 L/min, the speed was 0.289 m/s and the calculated Reynolds number was higher than 4000, indicating turbulent flow. The didactic module facilitated the analysis of losses in pipes and the visualization to identify laminar and turbulent flow conditions.
