Abstract

The restrictive measures imposed to halt the advance of Covid-19 caused a decrease in demand due to the closing of borders, which limited the free mobility of people and goods, affecting global trade. The main objective of the research was to determine the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the non-oil export sector of Ecuador. For this purpose, a non-experimental and qualitative methodology was used, analyzing international sources of information such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), World Bank (WB), Coordination Commission for Statistical Activities (CCSA), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the World Trade Organization (WTO); and, national sources such as the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE), during the period 2019, 2020 and July 2021. It was evidenced that oil exports had a negative impact while non-oil exports had a positive impact during 2020, the most difficult year of the pandemic. It is concluded that the Ecuadorian State must strengthen and develop its non-oil exports; and, at the same time, seek to diversify and industrialize its export portfolio, as well as promote trade alliances with other countries.
