This document describes how an image edge detector was developed, this technique is useful in a wide range of applications such as metrology, face recognition, pattern detection because it determines the boundary between two regions with different characteristics. The STM32FI-DISCO development board was used for this purpose, although this microcontroller is not designed for digital image processing (PDI) as is the case with Texas Instruments microcontrollers, Analog Device, etc., however, it has a high processing speed and uses 32 bits of program. The edge detector uses STmicroelectronics' ARM microcontroller module with the addition of a camera to take pictures and the image where the edge detector was applied is presented on a thin film transistor (TFT) display using the Sobel filter to determine the movement of objects by image difference. In addition, the edge detector filter was implemented in Matlab and the analyzed images were compared with the Matlab software and those obtained in the development card finding their similarity, being the images with greater similarity: buildings, geometric figures, etc.
