Abstract
The public service Atención en el Hogar y la Comunidad para Personas con Discapacidad, promoted by the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion of Ecuador (MIES), provides care to people with multiple disabilities and their families living mainly in rural and marginal sectors of the territory. Within this framework, this research analyzes the benefits, impact, contributions and achievements that this service has had on the quality of life of the indigenous community of Angamarca, Cotopaxi. For its development, a qualitative approach was used, with a descriptive design, to show that this population did not achieve autonomy and that this social program did not contribute significantly to the people with multiple disabilities; the latter because its assistance is limited to the medical-rehabilita-tion model and does not include aspects such as education, for example. Finally, it is pointed out that, although this service is implemented in indigenous localities, it does not take into account interculturality as a guide to build a new reality where diversity is respected and valued.
