Abstract
Introduction: Depression is a public health concern in older adults (MAs) due to a variety of environmental and internal circumstances that cause distress. Objective:The main objective was to understand the experiences of MAs with respect to depression and their experiences with it. Methodology: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted on depression in the MA in the city of Cuenca. Results: In terms of the results obtained, it could be observed that the older adult presents depression due to the violence she has experienced throughout her life, loneliness due to family abandonment. Similarly, this disorder has caused serious difficulties for the interviewee in recent years. Conclusion:In summary, major depressive disorder (MDD) in the older adult population is a highly relevant problem that concerns society as a whole. Although this condition is caused by various factors, it has unfortunately not been given due attention. However, it is a situation that needs to be addressed as a matter of priority, which is why we encourage the creation of public policies that can be implemented in order to address this type of problem and provide effective solutions.
