Heuristics is the process that seeks to understand the method that leads to the solution of problems emphasizing mental processes (Colmenares, Piñero, 2008; Boscán, Klever, 2012). On the basis of this theory we seek to link the heuristic strategies applied in problem solving with integrating experiences focused on the use of technology and collaborative work (Arias-Rueda, 2016). The study was carried out with a group of students from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Zulia who developed an integrative assignment that involved collaborative work including physics problems that had to be developed with pre-established guidelines. The heuristic processes used by the students in their resolution were identified and compared with the theoretical guidelines. To this end, three instruments were used to collect information: 1) the assignment with the instructions of the collaborative work 2) the instrument for the evaluation of the student products and 3) the self-evaluation instrument with the impressions of the students during the development of the assignment. The results obtained showed: Difficulties in the communication of mental processes used to solve a problem in addition to the contributions made by integrative experiences and collaborative work in their learning.
