Abstract
In Latin America, journalism is going through one of its most critical periods. Violence, censorship, institutional neglect, and the precariousness of the profession have turned journalism into an act of daily resistance. Threatened. The Future of Journalism in Latin America offers a collective and urgent reflection on the multiple challenges facing the press in the region, from physical and symbolic attacks to the structural obstacles that impede access to the truth. Far from falling into pessimism, this book also documents the forms of resilience that emerge amidst risk: voices that refuse to be silenced, initiatives that reinvent community-based communication, and efforts to make visible what those in power want to hide. It is a powerful testimony of how journalism, even in its most adverse conditions, remains a vital tool for the defense of human rights and democracy. Threatened is an invitation to face a complex reality, but also to recognize the strength of those who, with courage and commitment, choose to continue reporting what others prefer to silence.
