Abstract

This publication, the 2024 MSME Report: Talent Management in Ecuador, is a study aligned with the Ibero-American report promoted by FAEDPYME (Ibero-American Network for MSME Research) with a regional scope. By focusing the analysis on what is happening in Ecuadorian MSMEs, it reveals a specific reality that, based on data, allows us to understand the current situation and future challenges of one of the key areas for improving business competitiveness. In this research, this area is linked to human talent, which, due to its strategic organizational impact, constitutes the foundation for the operation of the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises that make up the country's productive fabric. It is hoped that this publication, the product of research by a group of Ecuadorian universities that are part of FAEDPYME, will become a benchmark for public and private stakeholders interested in improving Ecuador's MSMEs. Their contribution can be useful when designing business strategies and public policies that, in a systemic way, promote the harmonious and strengthened functioning of the national productive fabric, with a view to positioning companies and their products not only in the domestic market. In this sense, and considering the internationalization of MSMEs, the lessons learned from this research serve as a reference point for the development of training and technical assistance services, both within the companies themselves and through public sector action and international cooperation. These services should be geared towards enhancing the talent of individuals who, in various roles, drive a highly job-creating economic sector. Finally, this academic publication shows that when several higher education institutions come together around a common goal aimed at improving the country's productive situation, it is possible to achieve significant contributions to the continuous strengthening of key areas of national activity, such as the productive fabric, within which MSMEs have a significant weight in terms of the number of establishments and the generation of decent employment.
