Abstract

Since the incursion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), business management environments have been transformed there have been benefits such as cost reduction and the automation of operational processes. In the context of the tourism industry, this reality has not been the exception. Thanks to the Internet and its own infrastructures such as global distribution systems, the electronic commerce has been boosted and the value chain has been affected. This situation has encouraged a direct relationship between the supply and demand actors, diminishing the participation of traditional intermediaries, who are also dealing with digital distributors. The research presents the preliminary product of e-readiness evaluation for the management of tourism distribution, as a result of a methodological proposal that, guided in the value creation as a guiding thread for the development of tourist localities, was outlined by the Grupo de Investigación para la Gestión de las Mipymes (GIGMP) through a standardization and aggregation process of multivariant indicators. Among the findings, it is evident that the tourism distribution companies of Cuenca, which were objects of study, present shortcomings in the use of digital technologies mainly in the horizon of the business-to-consumer (B2C), and are they would not be prepared to face re-intermediation.
