Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present an exhaustive overview of the most important conceptualizations regarding the application of gamification in higher education, especially within the Latin American spectrum. The ideas presented are presented based on the "importance of promoting a culture of teaching innovation as a privileged vitamin for the growth of the improvement in the quality of higher education" (López Martín, 2017). Under this framework, a detailed review of the conceptualization of gamification is carried out, in addition to examining the game elements most used by gamification in educational research. On this basis, the positive assessment that can be given to this technique in educational innovation within higher education is discussed, mentioning some specific examples from Latin America.
