Abstract

The transmission of knowledge through generations is consideredintangible heritage. This transmission is not just a technique,is crossed by meanings and senses for the history ofa town. Ecuador preserves the transmission of humanized childbirthin all its regions (see Table 1), in the town of Muisne it iscarried out by older women of African descent who practice the tradeof humanized childbirth and are part of the living human treasures, whose knowledge could die with them if it is not managed in ansustained this legacy to the new generations, as an inheritanceto a people that needs to conserve the ancestral humanized childbirth1to prolong its existence. The approach to the knowledge of midwives begins with theglobal perspective on the situation of childbirth in the country with a visionretrospective of a decade. This gives us the necessary framework tounderstand the importance in the issuance and management of public policiesthat safeguard the oral transmission on humanized childbirth, through the wisdom of the midwives, for their work around thedefense of the life of pregnant women and their offspring. Despite attempts by the Ministry of Public Health to valueancestral knowledge and give clear guidelines aboutof the actions of midwives (Arias, 2020), violence still persistssymbolic and the power of the colonialist hegemony of knowledgethrough the power relationship of Western medicine, versusthe community: its practices and knowledge.
