Abstract

The UPS is an institution founded by Saint John Bosco, an educator whose legacy relies on the comprehensive training of future educators. In this vein, the Elementary Education Program (EGB), in its academic training, follows a process where the theoretical knowledge students receive is put into practice in specific educational centers, ensuring connection with society. This work thus presents a systematization of the pre-professional practices carried out by students in this program across various centers in the city of Quito throughout the eight semesters of their teacher training, from 2017 to 2021.The interest in this work arises from the importance of demonstrating that, by the end of their education training, students have become familiar with the social context, the subjects of education, the pedagogical models, and the curricular frameworks that underpin the educational process in various centers. Additionally, it allowed them to put into practice the didactics of Language and Literature, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics, either through direct contact or technology-mediated interactions due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19. Moreover, it is essential to showcase the students’ engagement with the community through educational intervention projects, where they are seen as agents of change. Therefore, this work aims to highlight the significant contribution of pre-professional practices and their connection with the community within the teacher training process, referencing the practices of two students. It begins by presenting a literature review to explain the concepts of teacher training, pre-professional practices, and community engagement. Following this, it systematizes the practices at each level and concludes with key insights on the contribution of each practice to achieving the graduation profile of future EGB teachers.
