Abstract
Traditionally, the characterization of the media considers those of a public, private or community nature, but among this typology, university media are not usually found, those that—with various objectives and particularities in each higher education institution—are linked to the different universities. University media, most of them radio stations, respond to the nature and vision of each university, which is why we find university radio stations that operate with different perspectives: dissemination of institutional activities, as a laboratory for academic communication and related programs, with emphasis on privacy, information or analysis. This chapter takes a tour of FLACSO Radio, the FLACSO Ecuador Headquarters radio station created in 2011 as a digital medium with the objective of opening the postgraduate university to society. Likewise, we identify the characteristics and challenges of university radio, both in Ecuador and the region.
