Abstract

Introduction: Depression is a mood disorder that affects individuals, recognized as a major depressive disorder. Objective: To identify the experiences of older adults with depression in the city of Cuenca. Methodology: The study adopts a phenomenological qualitative approach, focusing on older adults with depression in Cuenca. Nine open-ended questions were used in a semi-structured interview. Result: The semantic network analysis revealed that older adults experience depression due to loneliness and abandonment following the death of their mother. This has resulted in increased dependency on medication, which in turn causes anxiety. Conclusion: Depression is characterized by a triggering factor in the lives of those who suffer from it.
