Abstract
In Ecuador, the use of square tubular steel connections has increased in homes and shopping centers. However, there is no regulation that explains their behavior. In this research, the experimental behavior of this connection was evaluated. For this, tests were carried out where the elastoplastic behavior of welded joints with square steel tubes formed by G profiles of 60x30x2 and 80x40x3 mm, subjected to monotonic load, was analyzed. Each test consisted of imposing progressive load on the upper connection of the frame, to measure the displacements and distortion of the geometry of the beam-column connection elements of the lower connection. The results show that the experimental collapse load in frames 1, 2 and 3 (connection without reinforcement) decreased 12.82% with respect to the theoretical value, while in frames 4, 5 and 6 (reinforced connection) it increased by 14.96%.
