Abstract
This article takes us to the city of Quito with the aim of analyzing a peculiar form of appropriation and meaning of public space; consisting of the construction and installation, by inhabitants of La Colmena, of amphorae and altars for virgins and saints, for the recovery of the place turned into a risk area. The methodology consisted of the bibliographic review and hemerographic analysis on the stigmatization of La Colmena subsector as a "red zone" in the social imaginary. And a second phase of fieldwork carried out in the period 2015-2017. In conclusion, the resignification of public space translates into a symbolic sacralization of public space that, through the establishment of religious icons, seeks to generate places of meaning and memory in a neighborhood perceived as disordered, violent and unsafe.
