Evaluation of Non-Technical Energy Losses in the Distribution System in Electric Company

Abstract

The energy consumed by the end user of the electric companies is not always billed, these values are known as non-technical losses, which among several reasons include fraud, theft and defective metering systems. This article allows us to evaluate the impact of non-technical energy losses on the distribution system of CNEL EP - LOS RÍOS Business Unit and how it affects its financial sustainability and quality of service. The deficit of unbilled energy is related to the commercialization of the electricity supply, users when investigating mechanisms that help minimize energy billing prefer strategies that help them alter the correct operation of the metering systems, this is due to the lack of supervision in certain important areas related to the commercialization of energy, the incorrect reading of meters, the little review in the processes of surveillance and control of user consumption leads to total energy losses as of December 2024 by 19 %, equivalent to 88,874,320 kWh/ year, generating economic losses of about x0024 17,364,000 dollars.
