Abstract
This paper reviews the evolution of the catholic religion in the city of Quito pointing out its origins, then it shows the development that took place until the current situation, continuing with the universal values that should be the moral code by which all believers are governed. The purpose is to try to explain how religious freedom has given way to the present day, which causes differences between the ideal Catholic ethic and the modern way of life, which are confronted in Quito's society. It is concluded that there is a conflict between the point of view of the conservative catholic ethic and an individualistic one, product of a modern society.
