This article studies a diagnosis of the water resource of the Guarango River microcatchment into to the Quingueo river, located in the northwest of the Azuay province, belonging to the Paute River Basin. In general, the work consisted of making a zoning of the microcatchment through activities of recognition of the place of study, use of software tools such as ArcGIS, Google Earth, development of a participatory diagnosis through direct intervention with the community, mainly involving biophysical aspects and socioeconomic, emphasizing the characteristics of the basin. The main results about the hydrological level, that of the total rainfall received by the basin, only 17.5% is considered useful rain, generating runoff in it, the rest; 89.6% are involved in evapotranspiration processes and 28.6% are reserved in the soil. At the diagnostic level, this basin is characterized by having a significant problem starting from the deterioration of the moors, advancing the agricultural frontier, contamination by the inefficient management of solid waste, the lack of administration of natural resources, as well as a limited management of the microbasin water resource.
