Abstract
One of the worldwide needs of electricity systems in different countries, mainly in developing countries, is to have an advanced metering infrastructure that allows to control and transmit information bidirectionally between a smart meter and its control center, thus providing benefits for all the actors of the electricity system. In this context, incorporating these systems brings extraordinary challenges and challenges at all levels, as studies are required to select technology and deployment techniques that result in the best cost-benefit for the country or region, ensuring a high level of quality, safety, and reliability. The present study is carried out through a bibliographic review in databases of worldwide scientific recognition, from which several key aspects have been identified for the current time of measurement infrastructures, such as existing figures, technological trends, and resource optimization trends used for this purpose. Several criteria associated with the deployment planning of smart metering systems are also established to develop a heuristic to optimize costs.
