Abstract

This paper aims to assess the situation of production and the economy maintained by cocoa farmers, expanding knowledge about the cocoa sector and the factors that prevent the growth and development of a broad chocolate industry at national and international levels. The population of the Naranjito canton is mostly dedicated to activities related to agriculture, forestry, among others, these being their sources of income, where cocoa is a basic component of their production, highlighting the importance of investment and agreements by the State for small producers.
