Abstract

In recent decades, attention to people with disabilities has been part of the public agenda of countries worldwide. There are various studies and support proposals to comply with care policies for this group. However, the study on the status of the implementation of article 241 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in countries of the Ibero-American Intergovernmental Network for Cooperation of Persons with Special Educational Needs (RIINEE), of which Ecuador is a part states that: “there are great difficulties in knowing the reality of people with disabilities in Latin America, due to the insufficiency and characteristics of the available data” (RIINEE, 2017). Likewise, the reports of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (OHCHR) insist on the need to carry out systematic studies that allow us to know, value and guarantee the rights of people with disabilities in the region. Even more striking is the absence of studies related to multiple disabilities. According to the Convention on the Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the term multiple disabilities refers to the presence of two or more physical, sensory, emotional, intellectual and mental deficiencies in the same person. However, according to the same document, multiple disabilities are not only the presence of several deficiencies in the same individual, but rather they affect the person as a whole, which means that they need intensive and permanent support in all. the contexts to achieve the best levels of autonomy and independence. The book Students with multiple disabilities. Educational situation and proposals consists of two chapters: the first characterization of the educational, family and personal situation of a group of students with disabilities who live in the three main cities of the country. The second chapter describes examples of personalized educational proposals for working with people with disabilities.
