Abstract

The current era demands the formation of citizens educated in the human and social condition, capable of thinking about the future of our societies and of exchanging value with it through professional practice, of contributing to the construction of inclusive and just social systems, and of acting with ethical awareness, civic commitment and holistic understanding of reality, aimed at transforming it in terms of sustainable human development. Universities face the immense challenge of transforming themselves in order to be able to contribute significantly to the integral formation of their students. The change of the academic culture requires a succession of transcendent changes, difficult to carry out in a generalized manner, articulated coherently by policies projected towards the achievement of new horizons, which must be supported by consensual innovative strategies involving managers, professors, students, workers and all the substantive functions. The 21st century, as stated by Varona Domínguez (2021), in its not so few years of existence, has shown that it will be dynamic, unsettling, surprising, of revaluations. It will be supported by technology (ever more extraordinary and impressive) and centered on knowledge (increasingly diverse, deep and consistent). It is understandable that already at the beginning of its third decade, the growing importance of university education is remarkable: it is the future professionals who tomorrow will be prepared to produce, disseminate, conserve and use knowledge and technology. For this reason, the preparation and qualification achieved through higher education is essential. Changing the millenary tradition of knowledge transmission for a more participatory one, where knowledge is built and reached jointly, is essential for universities around the world. It is useful to rethink, from an academic perspective, university education, with the intention of stimulating the unfolding of scientific debates and, in this way, contributing to its development. Therefore, it is vital to reflect on the teaching-learning process in order to achieve more and better prepared people. It is through education that people who can change the world can change, as Paulo Freire said. Its analysis, updating and re-dimensioning is necessary, pertinent and contextualized, being the university student's look towards learning a success of the present proposal. The material is well written. It is coherent, clear, concrete, without losing the scientific look, but with a linguistic harmony that invites to its reading. The book approaches, from a current point of view, the perspective of learning, from the university student who is the protagonist in the process. The arguments are solid, well-founded and supported by updated authors, as well as experts in the topics addressed; therefore, their textual expository clarity is adequate, as well as the approaches, critical reflections, harmony between the theoretical and the contextual, hig.
