Abstract

This research explores the application of cognitive strategies for learning among Psycho pedagogy students at a public university in Ecuador. It is a quantitative, descriptive, and co-relational investigation. The data were collected through the application of the ACRA test by Román and Gallego (2021) to 126 students in the fourth and fifth semesters to determine the levels of application of cognitive strategies for learning in the dimensions of acquisition, coding, retrieval, and support for information processing. The data were processed using the SPSS 25 statistical software. The relationships between the dimensions of the variable study object were calculated using Pearson's Rho coefficient, based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, which demonstrated a parametric data distribution. From this, it is concluded that the application of cognitive strategies for learning is at medium and low levels. In other words, the investigated students apply cognitive strategies limitedly in their learning processes, which negatively affects the quality of their learning and, consequently, their overall development.
