Abstract

In this book, the author discusses the process of institutionalization of Intercultural Bilingual Education (IBE) in Ecuador and its impact on educational initiatives developed and sustained by indigenous communities. He analyzes the experience of the Sistema de Escuelas Indígenas de Cotopaxi (SEIC), in the surroundings of Quilotoa, which sought to meet the training demands of the area, within the framework of the struggle for land and the construction of an endogenous development project. The text is based on oral history and the review of primary sources, with actors who participated directly in the process, both on the side of the State as well as directors, management team and community educators, with whom it determines the effect that the institutionalization of IBE had on the initiatives of indigenous education.
