Abstract
ANDhe standardization process for Ecuadorian Quichua is an atypical case. It did not arise directly from state policies. There was no scriptpreset planning. Planning in the different components iswas elaborated on the fly, with regard to literacy and the EIB promotedby private institutions and by communities. For this reason, the narration of theactions related to the unification of writing is carried out around theevents that occurred in bilingual education, and also to the process of organizationof the indigenous nationalities of Ecuador. We start by pointing out the way in which Ecuadorian Quichua was written at the timecolonial and at the beginning of the republican era. Then we present the changesthat began to arise in the first half of the 20th century, as well as the policiesfollowed by literacy and bilingual education projects. Finally,we describe the standardization of 1980 and the adjustment made in 1998.
