Abstract
This work arises from a reflection on the theoretical and methodological principles of psychology from a perspective centered on our regional Ecuadorian reality. In recent years, psychology in Ecuador has faced various political, administrative, theoretical, and epistemological crises. As a scientific discipline, psychology is in a constant process of epistemological foundation and legitimization. These discussions are not a restriction but rather a unique opportunity to address its foundation, especially in Latin America in the Ecuadorian case. It should be noted that the approach addressed in this work is primarily conceptual and theoretical and aims to adapt it to national and regional realities, and particularly to the Ecuadorian context, considering the particularities of the practice of the psychology profession in the given country. This is so because the constitution of psychological knowledge and its academic institutionalization has varied in each region of the world and primarily responds to the predominant theoretical currents within that region. Additionally, it is important to consider that the international model focuses on psychology as a general postgraduate degree. In this context, Ecuador presents a significant particularity that deserves special attention and analysis: it is one of the few countries where undergraduate psychology training allows for a degree with a nomenclature that gives the impression of a professional specialization. This requires a process of reflection regarding the administrative institutionalization of psychology and its epistemological foundation. This historical-institutional singularity, where third-level degrees are issued as specializations (Clinical, Educational, or Occupational/Organizational, Social Psychologist), contrasts with the global trend in which initial training leads to a general degree in Psychology or a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, leaving specialization for the postgraduate level. This administrative and structural difference in the educational path is not a simple detail reflected in the diversity of degrees, but rather conditions the way psychology is conceived, taught, and practiced in the Ecuadorian context. Psychology is a science that presents constant internal disputes between psychological currents and schools, but these differences do not weaken its work; rather, they enrich it as a contextualized praxis. The diverse theoretical and methodological approaches of the discipline do not constitute a weakness, but rather a representation of its complexity when addressing its equally complex object of study: the human being. This editorial project proposes new bridges between the theory of psychological knowledge and its practical application in the diverse sociocultural contexts of Latin America, with an emphasis on Ecuador. This book brings together contributions from academics, researchers, and practitioners that address crucial topics such as:• Epistemology and methodolog.
