Enhancing accuracy in glass bottle manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0: A proposal for improvement through virtual measurement technology for molded part dimensional precision

Abstract

This study presents an innovative approach utilizing virtual measurement technology to enhance the dimensional precision of molded parts in the manufacturing of glass containers, within the framework of Industry 4.0. By transitioning from traditional measurement methods to advanced virtual techniques, this research aims to improve both the quality and efficiency of the production process. Rigorous testing and evaluation of a newly developed measurement system were conducted across three distinct pieces, revealing significant deviations from true values and highlighting the need for refinement in measurement techniques. Specialized imaging tools and statistical analysis were employed to identify and mitigate errors, particularly in measuring complex geometries and ensuring proper bottle sealing. The findings suggest that integrating virtual measurement technologies not only surpasses traditional methods in accuracy but also offers substantial improvements in reducing production defects and waste. This study marks a crucial step towards adopting more precise and sustainable manufacturing practices in the glass industry. Future recommendations include adopting specific lenses for different measurement scales and refining the reference scale system to achieve greater precision and better sealing performance.
