Abstract

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease significantly affects older adults, generating difficulty in the ability to be independent people, causing complex and wide-ranging symptoms at a cognitive and emotional level. Objective: To understand the perceptions that a Cuenca caregiver has of the patient with Alzheimer's whom she cares for. Methodology: A qualitative phenomenological study was carried out through a semistructured interview composed of eight open questions, which was directed to a 41-year-old caregiver. Results: It was possible to identify as the main finding in this research that substance consumption, in this case tobacco, represents a risk factor for the development of Alzheimer's. Likewise, it was possible to observe the possibility of a psychomotor delay in the patient's lower limbs. Also, the importance of empathy and attention on the part of caregivers was highlighted to provide stability to the patient. Conclusion: A proposal was made for a training plan aimedat caregivers, aimed at improving their ability to understand and effectively care for people with Alzheimer's disease from the early stages of the disease to its terminal phase.
