Elaboración de Cuestionarios de Intereses Profesionales y de Personalidad para el Programa de Orientación Profesional de la Unidad de Admisiones de la Universidad Politecnica Salesiana

This research refers to the development of a questionnaire that measures professional interests and personality traits to strengthen the self-knowledge of applicants to enter the undergraduate careers offered by the Salesian Polytechnic University - Quito, linking the personal determinant (personality traits), the situational determinant (vocational interests) with the academic offer, obtaining as a result the appropriate professional profile to select a university career. The benefits for the institution will be reflected in the equalization of the number of students entering the first level of each career with the number of graduates. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop psychological instruments of professional orientation that contribute to improve the compatibility between the profile (personality traits and professional interests) of the student and the career selection, decreasing the consequences of an adverse selection together with an improvement of the terminal efficiency. The methodology employed allows a critical review of standardized tests used in the international university context and specialized literature. The instruments were applied in a pilot phase to 863 applicants for all the careers offered at the Quito headquarters of the UPS, in order to evaluate the validity and reliability of the instruments based on the information collected. The evaluation of the applied instruments is based on Cronbach's Alpha technique for reliability, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) for construct validity and correlation analysis with already standardized instruments for concurrent validity.
