Abstract
The "harpies" of this novel are marginalized women escaping the urban discrimination that so names them because of their unconventional appearance. In their escape, they pass through the mountainous region where they find a monastery that allows them to serve as temporary guards in exchange for food. The monks inside ignore what's happening outside and celebrate the wine ceremony with local fruits, except for an elderly publicist who spends his time observing something through binoculars that no one understands. The only connection between the interior and the "harpies" is the efforts of the cook monk and the new publicist in harvesting wild blackberries for wine production. Everything proceeds normally until, by chance, they discover a sanctuary for endangered plants protected by the monks. This event precipitates everything, forcing them to take flight like true harpies.
