El Videomapping Narrativo como Estrategia de Revitalización Cultural y Urbana

Translated title of the contribution: Narrative Videomapping as a Strategy for Cultural and Urban Revitalization

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

This proposal discusses narrative video mapping as a cultural and tourism strategy. Otniel López (2023) proposes boosting local tourism and revitalizing culture and heritage through the use of public space with an inductive methodology based on three variables: medium, content, and space. He also suggests a public show that diversifies the cultural offering in Oaxaca, Mexico, enhancing the tourism sector. To this end, he designs an audiovisual narrative proposal that highlights the sociocultural and identity aspects of the local inhabitants. Based on theoretical approaches to media convergence and remediation, videomapping is considered to be the combination of languages that incorporates emerging technologies together with sound. This technological integration amplifies its immersive and expressive dimension, energizing the link between community, memory, and innovation and promoting new forms of sensory and symbolic interaction in public space. It is concluded that narrative video mapping contributes significantly to the community, both in a cultural sense—by showcasing its heritage—and in terms of tourism, being enriched by painting, signage, lighting, and street furniture.
