Abstract
Ecuador and the world in general, are in an intense search for renewable energies as primary sources for electricity generation. One of them is solar energy, which could help satisfy the energy needs of society, perhaps in the not too distant future. The use of this technology has been growing at an accelerated pace, from small systems for powering small electronic devices to large electric power generating plants. Ecuador is not lagging behind and has encouraged its exploitation through the competent entity, CONELEC. This work presents an analysis and study of the solar energy that affects the Metropolitan District of Quito for electricity generation purposes, since as in any other type of generating plant, the study of the primary source is the main point to determine the feasibility of any project.
