Abstract

This book reports the partial results of the doctoral research, ascribed to the Doctorate in Social Sciences of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana of Medellín, in agreement with the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana of Ecuador. The proposed thesis is the following: "Philosophical dualism has prevailed as the reference scheme on which the mestizaje category has been built in the Latin American academic context". This thesis was structured on the basis of three questions: What was the gap found in terms of the field of knowledge addressed? How was the gap in question reached? and finally, how is it intended to contribute to the discussion on the gap found? With respect to the first question, it was established that the academic approach to the mestizaje category suffers, for the most part, from the lack of an interpretative framework that assumes, relationally, the antinomic pairs that constitute this category; therefore, the philosophical approaches of binary character, are those that have prevailed in the academic elaboration of mestizaje; same that are organized from western thought, from binary perspectives that have as common feature, the irreducible opposition between the elements that make up the category in question.
