Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Explore the relationship between emotional management deficit and academic performance in university students. METHOD:The research is bibliographic, descriptive and explanatory with a quantitative and qualitative approach, the survey technique was used through Google forms. The population is made up of a number of 86 students, from different universities in Ecuador and Colombia. In the first country they correspond to the cities of Guayaquil, Quito, Milagro, while the second is related to the city of Cali. For this study, the sample is random, with 20 students. RESULTS:It is observed that 47% of those surveyed efficiently manage their emotions using deep breathing techniques and talking with friends. While 45% consider that good emotion management improves academic performance. The need to carry out interventions that higher education institutions must implement to develop the deficit in emotional management and academic performance is highlighted, for example, orientation programs, workshops and access to counseling services; investing in the training of teachers and administrative staff who play an important role in promoting a healthy academic environment. CONCLUSION:University students on their own initiative are expected to design a strong support network and to have friends or tutors to talk to about problems and concerns to provide relief and avoid dropping out.
