Abstract

The turn of media power in the digital era includes the most relevant contributions of the research work developed in the Graduate Program in Digital Strategic Communication of the Salesian Polytechnic University. A contribution to reflection on the role and performance of the media and their digital resources, even more so in situations of conjuncture and social, political or economic conflict. The historical context in which the works are framed is the period of protests experienced in Ecuador during October 2019, following the issuance of Decree 883 by the then President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, through which the price of fuels was increased. The reactions of the different social actors, indigenous organizations, political groups and citizens, did not wait; Once the protest began, a state of emergency was declared and its consequences in terms of prior censorship of the information that the media could divulge about the events in progress. In this complex scenario and given the urgent need for information on the part of the citizenry, the role played by the media was at the center of the discussion, especially the messages disseminated through their social networks as part of the transmedia logic that characterizes the times.
