Abstract

The main objectives of this paper are, to raise awareness among the higher education institutions of Ecuador and other countries regarding the efficient and intelligent use of electrical energy and to know the applications of renewable energies as saving strategies, focusing and emphasing on solar energy which is currently used by some universities, such as Universidad Politécnica Salesiana. The investigation exposes university research projects that avoid the waste of electricity and provides practical saving tips in order to achieve saving energy efficiency. A survey applied to a sample of 189 teachers shows their conduct behavior, and importance given to the rationalization of electricity within the Politécnica Salesiana of Guayaquil, hence the urgent need to create a university environmental culture.
