The objective was to analyze the contribution that enterprises make to the economic growth of the city of Cuenca-Ecuador. This study used the qualitative method, a survey was applied in October 2020 to 108 startups to find out what are the main barriers that prevent their growth and development, and present their current situation. For the analysis of the variables: Entrepreneurial Activity / Economic Growth and Entrepreneurial Activity / Unemployment of the 2014-2018 period, the correlational quantitative method was used, using the SPSS software, the information was taken from the Central Bank of Ecuador, Internal Revenue Service and Institute National Statistics and Censuses. The results show that most of the enterprises in the city of Cuenca during the COVID-19 pandemic, faced various difficulties, had to innovate and adapt, the main barrier that entrepreneurs have is access to financial credit, so they require support from State institutions.
