Abstract
This paper presents the development of an algorithm to measure the efficiency of a salient-pole synchronous generator using a calorimetric method based on the standards IEC 60034- 2A, IEC 60034-2-1:2007, and IEC 60034-2-2:2010. This indirect method is based on the principle that all the losses in the generator are dissipated as heat. The article describes the methodology used to develop and implement the algorithm in a 90 MW vertical shaft synchronous machine, as well as the instrumentation required to measure the necessary variables. Finally, a comparison is made between the results obtained from the implemented algorithm to determine the efficiency and the corresponding report provided by the manufacturer of the equipment.
