Efectos de la Pandemia por Covid-19 en el Sistema de Precios del Sector Camaronero Ecuatoriano

Shrimp farming is of great importance in foreign trade. With the beginning of the globalquarantine for the Covid-19 virus, this sector of the Ecuadorian economy presentednumerous obstacles; the main one was when China, one of the countries of greatestdestination for shrimp exports, found traces of the virus inside the containers, and as aconsequence ordered the withdrawal of the product from its markets, causing a declinein the country's non-oil income from shrimp exports. Therefore, the objective of this workis to analyze the economic and financial impact generated by Covid-19 on the shrimpprice system, during the period 2019-2021, through statistical figures issued by theNational Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), in relation to shrimp exports during this period. This research has a mixed approach; information collection is done through the openquestion survey, documents issued by official government agencies, and the analyticalsynthetic method is also used. The results reflect the crisis in which the shrimp sectorwas immersed, which left substantial monetary losses for Ecuadorian companies as aresult of the decline in the price of shrimp at the international level. However, by the endof 2021, Ecuador was positioned as the world's leading exporter, demonstrating anexponential economic leap.
