Abstract

The low participation of young university students in the stock market in Ecuador poses a significant challenge to the efficiency and development of this sector. The main objective of this study is to establish how the low participation of young university students in the economics program at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana in Guayaquil impacts the management of the Ecuadorian stock market. The research follows a quantitative approach and is correlational in nature. The sample consisted of 86 students. IBM SPSS v. 29 software was used, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test was applied, and Pearson's normality coefficient was used for hypothesis testing. The results indicate a positive impact of 0.741 with a p-value of 0.001< 0.05, which shows that the low participation of young university students studying economics in investments has a significant impact on stock market management. Among the findings of this study, it is noteworthy that financial education among young people is a determining factor that limits their participation in the stock market. The study also points out that access to capital and risk perception are other factors that hinder the relationship between young university students and investment in the stock market. Therefore, strengthening financial education and facilitating access to capital are encouraged as key strategies for increasing youth participation in this sector and, consequently, improving stock market management in Ecuador.
