Abstract

In today's societies, children, adolescents and young people spend most of their time within the school education system and it is there where they shape their ways of being and acting in society. Likewise, it is the school space, and specifically the school, which is in charge of structuring and designing their expectations as social subjects that, to a great extent, have been produced by their social experience within the educational institution. The main objectives and responsibilities of educational institutions are to promote and strengthen the academic formation of the student segment that attends the classrooms; however, the component of citizen formation and production of citizen subjects has been a constant concern in the educational process since the origin of the republican school, which in its educational project always sought secularism, secularization linked to rationalism and the idea of citizen progress.
