Abstract

The study of human dignity is of vital importance in the contemporary context, where the intrinsic worth of the person continues to be displaced by economic, scientific, political, or religious interests that often neglect its deepest dimension. This situation is aggravated by multiple forms of violence and dehumanization—such as armed conflicts, kidnappings, drug trafficking, labor exploitation, and exclusionary migration policies—that reveal a troubling disrespect for human life. In this panorama, a hermeneutic reflection becomes imperative, one that makes it possible to interpret and understand not only the value of the human being as such, but also their constitutive relation with the other. The central objective of this research is to analyze human dignity and alterity from a hermeneutic perspective, with the aim of deepening the understanding of the human condition and fostering coexistence grounded in mutual recognition and respect. To this end, a qualitative, hermeneutic approach is adopted, enabling a critical and reflective interpretation of diverse philosophical sources. The study concludes that living in relation with others entails recognizing the other as an end in themselves, rejecting every form of instrumentalization. Each person possesses an inherent value that transcends any utility or material possession and is grounded in an ethics of alterity and human coexistence.
