Abstract
The landscape of the media has changed: from large newspaper publishing companies, generally owned by family groups, to digital native media financed by journalists themselves or by NGOs thanks to citizen contributions or fundraising initiatives and subscribers. . This text draws a general panorama of what digital media means and reviews the experiences of some media from Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Argentina. In the Ecuadorian case, the coverage of a particular event -the October 2019 mobilizations- by three media outlets is analyzed: Wambra EC, La Periódica and the Virtual Media Center of the UPS Communication Career.
