Abstract
This study provides information on the technological and scientific development of engineering materials used by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the city of Cuenca, in relation to their level of technological innovation. Information is provided on the variety of engineering materials processed, their technological level and the most common problems they face in the production process. The orientation of research and technological innovation in the field of materials applied by the industrial sector is analyzed. For this purpose, surveys were conducted with production managers of a sample of local companies belonging to CAPIA and the Chamber of Industries of Cuenca. Finally, lines of action are proposed to promote the development of materials science in the industry of Cuenca through joint work between the company and higher education centers.
